“Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.”
The quote by Mahatma Gandhi has always been a mantra for me. The power of this statement for me truly lies in the sentence, “Your words become your actions.” From there, everything flows or it doesn’t. Are you aware of your thoughts, your words? Really aware? Are you able to listen to yourself as you speak? Are your words and thoughts open and expansive? Do you relish your world? Do you seek to be of service to others? Or, when you listen to your words, do you notice that your pattern is to worry, to doubt, to dampen your own enthusiasm? Are you challenged by life? Are you eager to find solutions? Or, do you feel defeated even before you begin?
The purpose of this checking in is to enable you to see where you are grounded. Awareness of where you be in the world is the first step to holding thoughts that serve and holding thoughts that serve are really the huge step that keeps us in gratitude and moving forward.
Take the time today to review you deeply. Do this without judgment, just from the point of observation. If you find that your words, your thoughts do not serve you or others, simply notice and make a commitment to shift it. You don’t have to shift today. You’re just noticing and making a commitment. That’s it. It’s a simple task. It’s not simple to remember to do this. It’s not simple to do this but you will. Whenever you notice that you’re in a closed state, whenever you do this practice and you see worry, fear or judgment, simply say out loud, “Cancel that. Cancel that fear. Cancel that judgment. Cancel that worry. Cancel that.” Replace the closed phrase or thought with a more open statement.
If this feels oh so simple or too elementary or even for some of you too spiritual, and you notice you’re ready to dismiss what I’m sharing with you, I ask you to do something different. Try it. For after all, your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny. Have a great day, we’ll be talking soon.
